Born March 2, 1982, He grew up in an immensely supportive home, his parents Ken and Brenda encouraging him in both football and basketball in high school. Ben grew to 6 feet 5 inches and weighed 240 pounds. Thus, the popular nickname “Big Ben”.
Ben Roethlisberger attended Miami University where he played football with the RedHawks. In 2004 he entered the NFL Draft and the Pittsburgh Steelers picked him in the first round. He led that team to numerous division titles, AFC championships, and two Super Bowl victories (XL and XLIII).
He was known for playing injured. He played with injuries to a knee and a thumb. In 2006 he returned to play soon after an emergency appendectomy. In 2008 he played with an injured shoulder.

He and his wife, Ashley, have given to Ronald McDonald House, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, the Children’s Home and The Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh. In 2021, along with recording artist Micah Tyler and the Light of Life Rescue Mission, Ben provided meals to the homeless in Pittsburgh.
Ben and Ashley run the Roethlisberger Family Foundation. It is an organization that exists to “forge stronger families” (as stated on their website). They offer resources such as video courses on “family teams”, books, podcasts, mentorships, and live workshops.
