Doug Haynes provides advice to clients across sectors. His experience includes leadership roles at both public and private companies. After leaving McKinsey, he founded an independent consultancy specializing in innovation strategy and corporate transformation. In 2015, he ​became president of The Council, responsible for advising and consulting global organizations. His client base spans government, education, healthcare, energy and financial service industries.

After graduating from the University of WV, he furthered his professional skillset by working in engineering and Software Development positions. Within his first few years following graduation, he developed an intense interest in the business world and began acting upon this interest. While at UVA, he received one ​ of the university’s prestigious scholarships, the William S. Shermer Memorial Scholarship. Upon graduation, he became a Management Consultant because it offered a perfect combination of challenging, industry-related projects and interesting people. His technological background helped him gain a solid base for future management consultancy work.

During his 22 years at McKinsey, Doug Haynes worked with a broad range of executives across the globe. Joining the firm opened him up to the intellectual stimulation of the company community. He says the experience also allowed him to build lifelong friendships and develop lasting professional contacts—an invaluable benefit that continues to serve him today. Haynes says McKinsey was a one-of-a-kind community where people freely shared ideas and insights. It was a place where he felt comfortable learning about various topics and sharing what he had learned. That openness ultimately helped propel his career.

Doug Haynes suggests that his successes can be attributed to two principles: Do the work in front of you to your best ability every day, and Work with people or organizations who share your values. Haynes contributes to many non-profits, including those fighting poverty, providing education, assisting veterans, and helping the homeless. He believes in giving back, so he uses his expertise to make a difference for others.
