Alliance Defending Freedom, formerly Alliance Defense Fund, was launched in 1994, by several leading members of the American Christian community. Since that time, we have grown into one of the largest and most powerful defenders of religious faith. Although primarily composed of Christians, we do not merely work on behalf for members of our own faith.
Alliance Defending Freedom has defended the rights of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Jews, Muslims, and people who possess no faith. We believe that religious freedom is guaranteed to everyone under the U.S. Constitution. This is the bedrock of our continuing work all over the nation. We also conduct a series of religious freedom campaigns outside of the U.S.
Our organization has worked to protect the free speech of a number of political groups with disparate views. As a result, Alliance Defending Freedom has been instrumental in helping to preserve the rights of all practitioners of political expression. These include liberals, libertarians, conservatives, pro-lifers, and pro-conservationists.
It should also be noted that Alliance Defending Freedom has worked on behalf of a number of groups outside of the nation. These include Shia Muslims, Yezidis, and Christians in countries where this faith is not the majority. We are firmly committed to the essential principle that religious liberty is guaranteed to members of each and every faith.
The pursuit of religious liberty is a principle that is not always uppermost on the minds of leaders in many parts of the world. This is why an initiative is sometimes required in order to bring attention to this essential right.
Alliance Defending Freedom accepts donations in order to continue its work. We are not, nor have we ever been, a for-profit organization.
