After 18 seasons playing in the NFL, winning two Super Bowl titles and retiring as 5th among the best passing quarterbacks in major league football history, Ben Roethlisberger has retired from sports and embraced new goals that don’t involve an end zone.
The Pittsburg Steelers legend’s new game is a focus on the family. The Roethlisberger Family Foundation is grounded in the idea that forging strong families is “the DNA” of a healthy American society.
Dovetailing with the concept of strong families is a focus on faith. Ben Roethlisberger believes strong families are grounded in a belief in God. A dual commitment to families that organize their lives around God is what one of the most successful athletes in history believes can sustain a healthy American society.
Ben Roethlisberger is a native of Ohio. He hails from the mid-sized city of Lima, Ohio, and attended Findlay High School in the small town of Findlay. From a very early age, Ben’s natural bent for athletics became apparent. He would eventually be named captain of the baseball, football and basketball teams for his high school.
Interestingly, Roethlisberger did not play quarterback for the Findlay Trojans, but he excelled at the wide receiver position.
After high school, Roethlisberger played for the Miami University Redhawks at Oxford, Ohio. Here again, he shattered numerous records for quarterback play. Ben Roethlisberger was a Round 1 draft pick. He was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers as the 11th overall choice.
Today, however, Roethlisberger is focused like a laser beam on programs that support families and foster healthy relationships between married partners who are raising children. His foundation organizes retreats and seminars dedicated to providing information and resources that help families stay bonded and strong.
Ben Roethlisberger married Ashley Harlan in 2011 and the couple have three children.
