Kelcy Warren, executive chairman of Energy Transfer and one of the most influential figures in American pipeline history, was inducted into the Hart Energy Hall of Fame in December 2023. The ceremony, held as part of the Hart Energy LIVE series, gave Warren an opportunity to thank his fellow honorees and to deliver a pointed message about the future of the energy sector.
The Transition Myth, According to Warren
Warren’s remarks at the event were characteristically blunt. He told the audience, and specifically the younger professionals watching, not to be swayed by what he described as misinformation about an energy transition. “I would say don’t believe any of this nonsense that we’re transitioning out of energy,” Kelcy Warren said. “We’re not. That can’t happen, it’s impossible, but we are never going to run from the rhetoric. So I would say for young people, don’t buy off on that. You’re too smart.”
The statement reflected a perspective that Warren has cultivated through decades of building midstream infrastructure. Energy Transfer, the company he co-founded and has led through multiple cycles of commodity volatility and regulatory change, now operates more than 90,000 miles of pipeline across 38 states. Its assets cover every major production basin in the country and handle natural gas, crude oil, natural gas liquids, and refined products. The company also owns and operates Sunoco LP.
Warren’s background is deeply rooted in the working culture of the Texas energy industry. He was born in Gladewater and grew up in White Oak, where his father worked field jobs for a pipeline company. After completing his engineering degree at the University of Texas at Arlington, he entered the natural gas business and built his career through a series of midstream companies before launching Energy Transfer in the 1990s.
Kelcy Warren’s Hall of Fame distinction was a recognition of the infrastructure he built and the industry he helped shape. His comments at the event made clear that he sees the sector’s best years as anything but behind it. Refer to this article for related information.
