The entertainment industry is massive in the world. It is likely recession proof and will never die out. Randy Douthit is individual who has made a great living be a producer and director during his career. One of his most successful shows you might recognize is “Judge Judy”. While he is looking to pull back his career as a producer, he is moving forward with one of his favorite hobbies. Racing has always drawn his interest. Not just any racing though, he is looking to get fully suited up and get in the cockpit himself.
The decision by Randy Douthit to walk away from television wasn’t an easy one to make. There are many factors that played into this. One was the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic caused strains on practically every industry in the world. Consumers were going out less, spending less, and hesitant to try new things. The entertainment industry was still one that could provide goods to people at home. The problem was creating the goods to deliver. The pandemic brought rising costs, added protocols, and lengthy filming times to the entertainment industry. This added a heavy bourdon for those involved in film and television making. Douthit stated that it was tough work to put shows together in a short period of time, but by making sure the team came together and stayed on task it was possible.
During his time with Judge Judy, Randy Douthit mentioned that the pressures of the job required split-second decision-making. With being a show that is largely improvised, you can’t just stop it and do a retake. This applies to his new passion of racing. You need to be able to make decisions quickly as you aren’t given much time to figure things out during a race. While he always strives to win, but Douthit admits that safety always takes precedent. Just like filming during the pandemic, it’s important to account for all things before making a decision.
