Repton School Champions Tennis Excellence at Spanish Training Camp

Repton School, known for its exceptional tennis program, recently elevated its commitment to nurturing young talent by sending a group of its elite players to the renowned Ferrer Tennis Academy in Spain. The trip, which took place in early April 2024, involved 20 promising pupils. This week-long camp aimed to provide an immersive experience in professional-level training, honing both their athletic abilities and teamwork skills.

Located in La Nucia, the Ferrer Tennis Academy boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including three hard courts and six clay courts. The central court, equipped with extensive spectator seating, offers a professional environment for aspiring tennis stars. Repton School students engaged in intensive training sessions that combined clay court practices, matchplay, and strength conditioning. This comprehensive approach ensured that students not only improved their tennis skills but also gained invaluable insights into sports discipline and resilience.

During their stay, the students had the privilege of training under the guidance of Andrew Richardson, the academy’s head coach. Richardson’s expertise is well-established, having coached Emma Raducanu to her historic win at the 2021 U.S. Open. His presence underscored the quality of coaching available to the Repton pupils, many of whom aspire to reach similar heights in their careers.

Repton School’s director of tennis, James Rushby, highlighted the trip’s success, noting the significant skill improvements among the players. He emphasized the importance of such international experiences in contributing to both athletic skill and personal growth.

This initiative is part of Repton School’s broader strategy to provide a stellar tennis education. With a history of producing tennis champions, Repton continues to support its athletes by offering a robust training program. The school’s dedication ensures that its students remain at the forefront of school-level tennis in the UK.
